Rubavu youth volunteers in a drive to ensure public safety

{Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Bértin Mutezintare yesterday met with representatives of Rwanda Youth Volunteers in Community Policing Organization (RYVCPO) from 12 sectors of Rubavu and urged them to enhance their efforts in crime prevention.}

He made the remarks while addressing members of RYVCPO who were undertaking a training of trainers in crime prevention held in Rugerero Sector.

Those that were trained are also expected to train their colleagues at a sector level.

In his address to RYVCPO, ACP Mutezintare told them that, “your contribution to public safety is of great importance that’s why we continuously remind you to keep up the momentum.”

He added that; ‘Our communities must be protected against any form of crime and to do so, we all have to work together. Your role in building your country shouldn’t stop at anti-crime awareness and prevention alone you should as well take part in all developmental activities and encourage youth to follow suite.”

ACP Mutezintare further stressed that the cooperation and collaboration between the force, RYVCPO and the public is crucial in pursuit for prevention rather than dealing with the consequences of crimes.

He said that similar trainings will be conducted periodically to review the implementation of their initiatives and sharing ideas on how to overcome challenges faced in their community policing initiatives.

The organization that is composed of about 20, 000 members currently, include secondary and university students, and those who have so far who have graduated, are taking part in the socio transformation by fighting and preventing crimes in partnership with police and local authorities.
