Rubavu: Police recovers genocide survivor’s property

{Following ‎a complaint by one Claudine Dusabimana, a genocide survivor in Rubavu District, police leadership in Western Province has facilitated and recovered her property including money.}

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Celestin Twahirwa, the RNP spokesperson, said that Dusabimana brought her complaint ‎to police seeking assistance to recover her property, which had been fraudulently taken by other people, including a police officer identified as Inspector of Police (IP) Alex Bwanashyamba, who had adopted her.

“She claimed that the police officer had cheated her of Rwf350, 000, which was a compensation he received on her behalf, resulting from a decision by Gacaca court‎,” ACP Twahirwa said.

“Rwanda National Police refunded Dusabimana and took disciplinary action against the implicated police officer,” he added.

Meanwhile, Rwanda National Police (RNP) and Rubavu District have taken decisions including helping her acquire accommodation.

“‎At the moment, a house will be rent for her and her two children until a permanent house is built for her,” he explained.

Police is working with Rutsiro District, her ancestral home, Ibuka and other concerned entities, to recover claimed property including land.
