{An unidentified resident of Muhira cell of Rugerero sector in Rubavu district has been kept at Gisenyi police station over alleged murder of his wife of one year and half.}
The executive secretary of Rugerero sector ,Uwajeneza Jeannette has told IGIHE that the incident took place in on Sunday around 19:30 hours.
“The man tracked the woman on the street and stabbed her in the belly. She was then rushed to Gisenyi Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival,” she said.
Uwajeneza explained that the couple had divorced over grave misunderstandings including the woman’s failure to conceive.
Uwajeneza added that the culprit decided to kill her divorced wife after hearing that she is about to marry a Tanzanian man who lives in Rugerero sector.
The police spokesperson in Western Province, SP Emmanuel Hitayezu confirmed the tragedy and asked people to avoid conflicts and report early where clashes arise.
If convicted of murder the culprit will receive a life sentence as per article 140 of Rwanda penal code.
