Rubavu: Counterfeit money launderer netted

Bugeshi residents in Rubavu district have tracked a man alleged to distribute counterfeit money owning 18 bills of two thousands and five bills of five thousands all valued at seventy one thousands.

The suspect has been detained at police station of Bugeshi, accused of issuing counterfeit money when he deposited on furniture and to various shops.

The spokesperson of Rwanda National police in Western Province, IP Innocent Gasasira ha s said such villain acts negatively impact the economy.

“Money forgery cannot be left to abound. Everyone must avoid such crimes since if affects cheated individuals and national development,” Said IP Gasasira and appealed on citizens to provide information on time to detect criminals.

He advised residents to check be keen on the notes received and called upon business community to acquire counterfeit money detecting machines. IP Gasasira commended Bugeshi residents for providing information that facilitated tracking of the suspect and requested them to continue collaboration with RNP. The 601 article of penal code in Rwanda spells for punishment of whoever engages in forgery with a penalty of five to seven years imprisonment.
