RPC north urges residents on security

{The Regional Police Commander (RPC) for the Northern Province, Chief Supt. Sam Rumanzi has appealed to the residents in the region to equally dedicate their time and commit to promote safety and security in their communities.}

CSP Rumanzi made the call while speaking to about 1500 residents, who had converged in Shingiro Sector of Musanze District to celebrate the 22nd Liberation Day anniversary.

“As we celebrate the milestone of development, peace, safety and security, the challenge remains to preserve what has been achieved especially particularly security which is the foundation for development,” said CSP Rumanzi.

“Security is the pillar of everyone’s success and subsequently the nation and this is why it’s imperative to put ideas and energy together and fight crimes where we live, pass by exchanging information very fast to prevent anything that can affect the safety and peace of our people,” he added

He singled out abusing psychotropic substances like cannabis, banned gin and other locally made illicit brew as one of the pressing issues that should be given priority to save and shape the youth, the most affected.

Those who assault others, men who batter their wives, defilement and rape suspects and domestic conflicts are in most cases linked to drug abuse, the RPC said.

He also hinted on the emerging global security threat of human trafficking adding that “it’s a reality that the youth especially girls should beware of and not to be taken away by promises from strangers, whose selfish interest are life-threatening.”

He appealed to the residents to be reliable partners in identifying, reporting and preventing crimes.
