{A team from Rwanda National Police (RNP) has concluded an inspection visit of peacekeeping mission sites in the Central African Republic (CAR), which aimed at assessing the overall security and logistical environment prevailing in the mission ahead of deployment of 2 more contingents as well as inspection of the first FPU in the mission.}
The visit run from June 30 to July 3 and was led by Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Administration and Personnel, DCGP Juvenal Marizamunda, and was composed of Commissioner of Police Cyprien Gatete and Chief Superintendent of Police Reverien Rugwizangoga.
It was conducted pursuant to the request by the United Nations to Rwanda to contribute two other contingents under the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilisation Mission in Central Africa (MINUSCA), which was accepted by the Government of Rwanda.
In his remarks during the visit, DCGP Marizamunda assured the mission leadership of the Rwanda National Police readiness to deploy the two upcoming units in terms of both equipment and personnel.
The mission leadership also pledged full support to the smooth deployment of the two units and to give necessary consideration to the recommendations made during the visit.
“The aim of this visit was to assess the overall environment prevailing in CAR in general and in particular the status of the sites in relation to the operational, administrative and logistical issues that may affect the unit,” DCGP Marizamunda said.
“We also set out to determine the actual environment and circumstances in which the contingent will operate in regards to effect on its capability to undertake the task given in the MINUSCA Concept of Operations (CONOPS).”
During their visit, the inspection team was briefed about various activities, including; security situation in CAR and police challenges, as well as the readiness and discipline for Rwandan peacekeepers in the mission.
They also perused through the responsibility of UN and PCC during deployment of military or police contingents by the Mission Support Centre, and also visited potential sites broke base camps in the capital Bangui.
Rwanda was the first nation to deploy a contingent of Formed Police Unit under MINUSCA, while it also aboasts Rwanda Defence Forces troops in the same UN mission.
