Religious Institutions urged to be part of Genocide commemoration

Religious institutions have been urged to raise awareness among their followers to actively participate in the activities of commemorating the 19th Anniversary of Genocide that was committed against Tutsi in 1994.

The call was made earlier this week during a meeting that brought together Rwanda National Commission of Fighting against Genocide with the representatives of religious institutions in Rwanda.

Genocide Commemoration activities are scheduled to start on 7th April, 2013 and this year’s commemoration activities will be held to the grassroots level.

The Executive Secretary of CNLG, Jean de Dieu Mucyo has said that religious leaders will preach and deliver commemorating messages to their followers as a way of helping them to honor the victims of the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi.

Although Commemoration activities are to start on Sunday, 7th, the day on which many people go to church, Bishop of Catholic Diocese of Kabgayi Smaragde Mbonyitege has said that will not prevent people loyal to the religions to join others in commemoration activities.
