The process of unity and reconciliation among Rwandans has reached at more than 80%, according to the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Unity and Reconciliation Commission (NURC), Dr Jean Baptiste Habyarimana.
Dr. Habyarimana reveled November 16, 2012 while presenting NURC achievements in the past 18 years after the genocide against the Tutsi.
The presentation was delivered to members of the Unity Club “Intwararumuri” consisting of current and former members of the Government.
Unity Club’s mission is to promote the culture of unity and peace, pillars of sustainable development. It began operations in February 1996.
The study reveals that 90% of Rwandans have confidence in their leaders.
This positive perception also shows that the current leaders have considerable popular legitimacy.
Research also shows that Rwandans prefer their children to be identified with the nation not their ethnicity or region.
However, not everything is done so that Rwandans are reconciled to 100%. There are still things to be done to achieve this noble goal.
According to Dr. Habyarimana, barriers to Unity and Reconciliation draw in the genocide and its serious consequences, but also in reconciliatory justice, Gacaca.
It should be noted that this activity coincided with the end of the week dedicated to Unity and Reconciliation.
