{Rice growing farmers in Bugarama, Rusizi District hail the government of Rwanda for erecting a dyke on Gatabuvuga river in Muganza Sector. The dyke constructed by the RDF Reserve Force in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal resources will benefit 885 rice growing farmers operating in Bugarama valley.

“ We don’t know how to express our hapiness after inauguration of this dyke, the rice production is going to increase due to the irrigation and water flow control in Bugarama valley, we thank the Government of Rwanda, we are going to work hard”, said Mukeshimana Taciana one of rice growing farmers organised in cooperatives in Gakoni Cell.
According to RDF Reserve Force Engineers, the dyke is conceived and constructed with the capacity of irrigating the area estimated to 200 hectares in the Bugarama valley.
The RDF Reserve Force Deputy Chief of Staff, Maj Gen Jerome Ngendahimana and Nzeyimana Innocent from MINAGRI Irrigation and Mechanisation Task Force urged the local population in Bugarama to maintain the dyke for their benefit.
Gen Ngendahimana highlighted that the current Rwanda’s progress in development is to some extent due to the long existing good collaboration between the citizens, the leadership and the Rwanda Defence Forces.
The dyke inaugurated and handed over to MINAGRI and locals was constructed in six months.
