{The Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) special army week continues in different Districts of the country. On 30 June 2016, the RDF handed over four houses and four cows to four vulnerable families of Muhanga and Kamonyi districts, in Southern Province. }
The ceremony that was held in Shyogwe Sector was presided over by Muhanga District Vice Mayor in charge of Social Affairs, Mrs Mukagatana Fortunée who was the Guest of Honor, and the RDF 411 Brigade Commander, Col Paul Nyemazi, on behalf of the RDF Leadership.
In her keynote address, the Vice Mayor Mukagatana hailed the highly valued contribution of RDF in uplifting the livelihood of Rwandans, through a range of activities.
“This is a strong signal that the RDF, after liberating the country and stopping the Genocide against the Tutsi in 1994, has embarked on social activities to improve the welfare of Rwandans and safeguard the liberation achievements, for a sustainable security of Rwanda”, she underlined.
Col Nyemazi, 411 Brigade Commander, told the beneficiaries of the ongoing Army Week activities that those activities being conducted across the country are part of the liberation process.
“For us RDF this kind of activities are meant for liberating our people from poverty and contribution to their socio-economic welfare”, he said.
The Brigade Commander further urged the beneficiaries to look after the cows and to properly maintain the houses.
One of the beneficiaries in Muhanga District, Mukamurenzi Annonciate could hardly find words to express her gratitude to the President of the Republic of Rwanda and RDF Commander-In-Chief, HE Paul Kagame, for making possible for her to own a decent house.
“We have been living in very poor conditions, spending sleepless nights. In rain seasons, we were always invaded by water inside our small houses of two rooms… Allow me to merely say thank you. If possible, I could offer the first milk from this cow to the RDF”, she said jubilantly.
The ongoing Army Week activities constitute the prelude to the 22nd Liberation Day that will be celebrated country wide on 4 July 2016.
