{The EAC Armed Forces undertaking a multi-dimensional Field Training Exercise codenamed “Ushirikiano Imara 2014” in Burundi, on 20 October 2014 launched humanitarian assistance and medical civic action programs in Mwaro Province that is hosting the Exercise.}

The Regional Military Medical team visited FOTA and Mutumba Health centres and donated the most needed drugs to both health centres and provided free medical treatment to local patients. The drugs distributed to Fota district Hospital include: dextrose, paracetamol, diclofenac, candistat, metakelfin, mucolin that will be given free of charge to the needy.
The Director of Fota District Hospital, Dr Cyprien Mbonye ngingo warmly welcomed and thanked the EAC Armed forces for the humanitarian action and support to the Hospital. “Mine is to thank the EAC Armed Forces for the medical assistance, you have provided to us. Indeed, the drugs are very important to address the frequently demanded medicines at Fota Health Centre. I thank you and look forward to further assistance. The Health Centre is small but receives a big number of patients”, he concluded.
Furthermore, the local patients were also offered free of charge medical care. 150 patients have been treated. “I used to pay for treatment but today, I am very lucky I was treated and given medicine for free.” Christiane Ndabubaha, one of the treated patients said.
Apart from Medical Civic Action Program activities that will continue until 24 October 2014, the Regional Forces constructed two modern classrooms that can accommodate up to 120 students, at Lyce de Mwaro in Mwaro Province.
