RDF Contingent in Nepal Commences Multinational Military Exercises

The contingent of Rwanda Defence Force that flew to Nepal has commenced participation in the Multinational military exercise codenamed ’Shanti Prayas-II’.

The two-week long multinational military exercise “Shanti Prayas-II”, aimed at enhancing military skills for UN peacekeeping missions was inaugurated by the Nepalese Khil Raj Regmi, Chairman of Interim Election Council of Ministers (The Interim Leader of Nepal) in Panchkhal of Kavrepalanchwok district on 25th March.

He said that protection of human rights and establishment of the rule of law was essential for the strengthening of democracy.

The 40 RDF strong contingent is among the 804 representatives from 23 countries including Australia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Canada, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Japan, Jordan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Thailand, Rwanda, the USA and the UK are participating.

Only eleven countries including Rwanda provided contingents to conduct the Field Training Exercise.

Among the three parts of the exercise, Rwanda is participating in Staff Training Exercise (STAFFEX) and Field Training Exercise (FTX).

The report from the exercise indicates the high performance of Rwandan Contingent.

The training, hosted by the Nepal Army in coordination with the United States Co-Sponsored multinational Peace Support Operations (PSO) and United States Pacific Command (USPACOM) under the Global Operations Initiative program, will continue till April 7.
