Public procurement to prioritize Made in Rwanda

{The law governing public procurement processes and procedures are set to be revised as a way of increasing value for Made in Rwanda products and services.}

As he closed the exhibition of Made in Rwanda products yesterday, the Minister of Trade, Industry and East African Affairs (MINEACOM), François Kanimba said that the existing law does not encourage positive product discrimination which affects home-made products.

He explained that the government will try by all means to become a good client of private investors in Rwanda.

“The government has decided to revise laws guiding the public procurement among government institutions to give formal attention to Made in Rwanda products,” said Kanimba.

Kanimba explained that the government will; continue to help Rwanda’s manufacturers especially through the reduction of taxes on capital goods.

He requested private investors to anchor more resources in local production to increase Made in Rwanda products of good quality on the market.

The president of Private Sector Federation, Gasamagera Benjamin advised traders to play their role in creating a competitive market awareness of products made in Rwanda.

Made in Rwanda Expo was held for the second time and attracted about 300 traders. The first expo of its kind was held in February 2016.
