Investor Acquires 60% Stake in Gatsibo Rice Mill Ltd

{{A private investor has acquired 60% shares in the Gatsibo Rice Mill Ltd located at Ndatemwa,Kiziguro in Gatsibo district.}}

The Rice Factory previously belonged to government but will after acquisition be effectively run by the private individual Itegeli Diedonné.

The investor has acquired the rice factory at Frw335,232,000 and equivalent of 60% shares. Government of Rwanda will have a 40% stake in the Gatsibo Rice Mill Ltd.

The decision to handover Gatsibo Rice Mill Ltd to private investors is in line with Government policy of pushing for a private sector led economy.

Itegeli told IGIHE that the Factory is currently processing 2.5tons of rice per hour but net year the factory intends to operate at a processing capacity of 5Tons per hour.

He added, “annually the factory processes 7,000 tons but in 2015 we target to process 10,000tons of rice per year.”

The Investors said they are working on mechanisms to enhance collaboration with rice farmers cooperatives at Rwagitima,kanyonyomba and others to improve rice yields in the area.

Ruboneza Ambroise the Mayor of Gatsibo hailed the rice factory establishement which he said has allowed residents purchase rice within the district at affordable prices and asured of supply.
