{The 22nd Liberation Day was celebrated at national level on 04 July 2016 in Rweru Sector, Bugesera District. At his arrival, the Guest of Honour of the Day, His Excellency Paul Kagame, President of the Republic and Commander-In-Chief of Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) started by inaugurating a brand new model village located in Batima Cell of Rweru Sector. The village was entirely put in place by RDF in partnership with other Government Institutions to accommodate relocated families from Sharita and Mazane Islands high risks zones (in Lake Rweru) and to uplift the locals’ livelihood in general. }
In the 1st phase of the Project, 104 families of more than 400 people from Sharita and Mazane Islands have been relocated and settled in the Rweru model village.
In his speech, HE the President and RDF Command-in-Chief recalled that the Liberation did not end with defeating in 1994 the bad politics that the country had suffered for decades, and stopping the Genocide against the Tutsi.
”After liberating the country militarily from bad politics 22 years ago, the follow-on liberation struggle that we have embarked on is about ensuring that all Rwandans have access to a decent and dignified life they are entitled to”, HE the President underscored. The RDF Commander-in-Chief further commended RDF in particular for efficiently carrying out its primary responsibility of defending the sovereignty of Rwanda, while at the same time contributing significantly to national development. The President noted in this respect that, thanks to RDF hard-working and commitment, infrastructure development projects like the ones inaugurated can be executed at least five times cheaper than the ordinary cost.
In his remarks, Hon Minister of Defence, Gen James Kabarebe reiterated that Rweru model infrastructure development activities inaugurated today are in line with the continued liberation process of transforming Rwandans’ lives, under the visionary leadership of HE Paul Kagame the President of the Republic and Commander-In-Chief of the RDF.
On behalf of the relocated families from Mazane and Sharita Islands, Mrs Elevania Nyiraminani expressed her deep gratitude to HE the President for having offered them decent homes. ” Compared to the poor homes we were used to, the first night we spent here in Rweru, in these nice houses with electricity and water, was like we were dreaming, as if we had reached the paradise…”, Mrs Elevania publically testified.
Rweru Integrated Development Project that was inaugurated today is the outcome of collaborative efforts between the RDF and Ministries of Local Government, Agriculture, Infrastructure, Education, Health, Natural Resources, Commerce, ICT and the Rwanda Development Board.
