{President Paul Kagame has received a delegation of Swedish parliamentary commission in charge finance with who they discussed themes including Rwanda’s experience for rapid growth.}
After holding talks on today, the vice president of Swedish parliamentary commission in charge of finance, Ulf Hjalmar told the media that they have come to learn from Rwanda a number issues which they discussed with the president.
“We had a nice visit in Rwanda and we have held important talks with president Kagame regarding international relations, economy and technology,” he said.
Deputy Hjalmar said that they share many experiences including local leaders and citizenry commitment to national development.
The speaker of Rwandan parliament, Donatille Mukabalisa said that the Swedish parliamentarians wanted to know how Rwanda managed to attain fast development, the way national budget is used and the way the parliament plays a role in following up the budget use.
“We shared information on how every Rwandan feels responsible playing part in the development of our country and how each of them has contributed to national development aspirations,” she said.
The bilateral cooperation between Rwanda and Sweden started after the 1994 genocide perpetrated against Tutsi when Rwanda opened an embassy in Stockholm in 2007. Sweden also opened an embassy in Rwanda in 2010.
In June 2015, Swedish government confirmed the four year plan of cooperation to support Rwanda development. This plan will concentrate on job creation among women and youth, democracy, human rights and building capacity to become resilient to climate change.
The cooperation of Rwanda and Swedish has mainly benefited the education sector. About 50 Rwandans are undertaking PhD studies in various Swedish universities.
Swedish government also helps to train lecturers in Rwandan universities and sending lecturers to teach in Rwanda. The cooperation has been remarkably expanded in the past two years.
