{President Paul Kagame has received the award for his unwavering efforts in promoting agriculture and prioritizing it as a way of transforming Rwandans livelihoods.}
He has been awarded along with the president of African Development Bank (AfDB), Akinwumi Adesina.
The awards were handed over today during the opening of the 7th Africa Agriculture Science Week and FARA General Assembly in Kigali.
President Kagame’s award has been received by Premier Anastase Murekezi who represented him in the meeting.
The Minister of Agriculture and Animal Resources, Dr. Mukeshimana Geraldine has observed that agriculture plays a vital role in Rwanda’s economy through the GDP and job opportunities.
Ambassador Michael Ryan Head of Delegation, European Union to Rwanda, has said that FARA is a key partner is agriculture on African continent and Rwanda in particular.
“We rely upon the use of technology in agriculture to improve people’s livelihoods,” he said.
AfDB says that Africa imports foods worth USD 35 billion annually noting that it is time for Africans to be fed by own resources since it has all that is required to realize excellent agriculture productivity.
