The former Prime Minister, Agathe Uwiringiyimana, leaders of PL political party including Landouard Ndasingwa, Kabageni Venantie, Charles Kayiranga, Jean de la Croix Rutaremara, Augustin Rwayitare and Aloys Niyoyita are among 12 politicians killed during genocide and buried at Rebero memorial.
They were killed over their beliefs which differed from the government which prepared and executed the genocide.
The politicians are remembered at the closing of remembrance week. Most of them are buried at Rebero memorial where the event of closing the commemoration week took place.
They are appreciated for their commitment to resist evil and fighting against the execution of genocide.
The president of senate explained that genocide was executed because some of them failed.
“If all politicians or most of them had such brave acts of resisting the evil, genocide would not have happened in this country,” he said.
Makuza asked politicians to work and promote activities meant for the progress of citizens standing for unity.
A politician, he advised, is required to embrace patriotism and be interested in citizens’ welfare seeking their promotion other than engaging in racist politics that led to genocide.
The spokesperson of the National Forum of Political Parties in Rwanda, Mukabunani Christine said that a real politician must be involved in mobilizing people for development and influencing positive thinking.
Mukabunani called on the masses to resist politicians who have genocide ideology whether in actions or spoken words.
She said that political parties forum carries out civic education where they are taught on patriotism and devotion as a way of having good politicians.
Honorable Odette Nyiramirimo, a parliamentarian representing Rwanda in East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), a relative to Kabageni Venatie who was the vice president of Liberal Party (PL) buried at Rebero, expressed gratitude to the late for sacrificing their lives to save the nation.
She said that as a politician it reminds her to recognize that people are equal, strive to teach and encourage others to respect human rights and oneness.
A total of 14,000 victims of 1994 genocide against Tutsi including 12 politicians killed for resisting genocide ideology are buried at Rebero memorial.
