He said this yesterday at the Rwanda National Police Headquarters during a study tour that saw Hagos International School pupils and staff witness a demonstration on how to fight fire hazards using fire fighting engines.
The visiting team comprised of 38 nursery pupils and their teachers.
Hagos International School is a private school that operates in Gacuriro cell, Kinyinya sector in Gasabo district.
Supt Mutezintare said one of the big challenge Rwanda National Police is facing particularly concerning fire breakout is that most Rwandan citizens do have knowledge on fire precautions.
“We have put much emphasis on raising awareness campaigns from children themselves so we may in end make fire fighting a responsibility of every Rwandan and indeed a culture in the country,” said Supt Mutezintare.
“Teaching young stars the techniques of fighting fire hazards is something we hope will greatly to sustainably have a society that is well prepared to handle fire accidents,” he added.
Diana Choi, the executive secretary of Hagos International School who was also among the visiting team explained that the intention of the study tour was to make pupils gain practical knowledge on how to combat fire hazards.
“We had good times here and I think the children are happy to have practically witnessed how the fire fighting machines operate to fight fire accidents.
There is a big lesson learnt by the pupils and school staff and such learning visit should be a continuous exercise so that in the future every citizen may have the necessary knowledge and capacity to fight fire accidents,” Choi noted.
