Police in Kicukiro, yesterday recovered a motorcycle which had been stolen in Muhanga District.
The motorcycle registration number RA602K recovered in Niboyo Sector Nyakabanda cell at about 5:00am was stolen on January 23 at Muhanga stadium.
The owner of the motorcycle, Fidel Udahemuka, was on the fateful day teaching people how to ride a motorcycle, as they prepared to do practicle driving tests.
It is alleged Bucyanayandi, who was Udahemuka’s student then varnished with the motorcycle.
Bucyanayandi and his accomplice, Jean Baptiste Nkurunziza were also arrested and are currently detained at Kicukiro Police Station.
Bucyanayandi confessed to the crime, but his accomplice denied any involment in the theft.
Bucyanayandi had said the he connived with Nkurunziza, who in turn was to get a buyer, a thing the latter lables as “lies.”
The motorcycle was handed over to the owner.
Udahemuka, who thanked Rwanda National Police for recovering his motorcycle, said he had lost hope.
Supt Dan Ndayambaje the District Police Commander (DPC) said six other stolen motorcycles were recovered in the recent past.
Supt. Ndyabaje warned anyone that could be involved in such criminal acts to desist before they are arrested.
He further challenged owners of automobiles to be viglant and take precautions to protect them.
“Criminals are always alert like predators. Motorcyclist riders and owners should be more cautious to avoid such thefts.”
The suspects will be charged for theft under article 300 of the penal code.
It states that any person who commits theft without violence shall be liable to a term of imprisonment of six months to two years and a fine of two to five times the value of the stolen property or one of these penalties.
