{The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Emmanuel K. Gasana has said that Rwanda National Police (RNP) has embarked on specialized courses as a way to further build the professionalism of officers to always be on high alert to respond to the demands of contemporary policing.}
The Police Chief made the remarks on March 1 as he officiated at the closing of a two-month Training of Trainers (ToT) of 84 Police officers in specialized fields, at the Police Training School (PTS) Gishari in Rwamagana District.
Among the trainees, 25 were trained in VIP Protection; 32 in Public Order Management and 27 in Traffic and Road safety.
“On this particular ground, His Excellency the President once said that Rwandans should take their security for granted; it’s upon us as Rwanda National Police to ensure that but we can only achieve that through building a professional force. This is why we have to continuously conduct these specialized trainings,” IGP Gasana said.
Speaking about the three particular courses, IGP Gasana noted that their relevance is to ensure that officers are able to deal with any situation even when they are deployed for the international duty in peacekeeping missions.
“You have to abide by our national values at all times and always serve with dignity, passion and enthusiasm,” he added.
He went on to thank the trainers for the job well done saying that their contribution fits well in the requirement of the training school which is expected to promote doctrine professionalism and skills development.
The trained officers will now train other officers of RNP to extend the same skills to their colleagues.
