{Over 85 litres of illicit brew commonly known as Kanyanga were destroyed in Bugesera District on Sunday, following operations by Police that aim to rid the country of the hazardous product. }
The operations were conducted in and around different sectors of the District and the products were discovered in three homes, where Police also seized the equipment used in the manufacture of the illicit brew, which is known to have adverse effects on the lives of those who consume it.
Inspector of Police, the Police Spokesperson for the Eastern Province, commended the residents in the area for providing timely information which was influential in the police operations, and also called on the public to shun the consumption and production of such dangerous products.
“Illicit brew is very harmful to people’s health and that is why police is conducting a serious campaign against those who produce it and sell it to public. We shall not stop until this illegal act is eradicated,” he said.
He also warned of severe consequences to anyone that will be caught in the habit of preparing the illicit brew and urged the public to strengthen partnership by providing information on people making, selling and consuming these hazardous substances.
