Police Hands Over Stolen Motorcycle to Ugandan Owner

Police in Burera district have arrested a Ugandan man identified as Thomas Byiringiro, 24 for allegedly stealing motorcycle in kisoro district.

Byiringiro was arrested on December 10, in Cyanika sector, Burera district while on the way to sell the motorcycle to a man whose name is to this date unidentified.

The motorcycle stolen belonged to one Geoffrey Niyongombwa, also a resident of Gisoro District who thanked the Rwanda national Police, at this handover ceremony.

Niyongombwa hailed the commitment on both sides to combat cross border crimes as he witnessed the case.

Police in Burera and Cyanika sector local authorities handed over the motorcycle to the owner accompanied by Ugandan authorities among whose the border security officer called Eduard Tugume.

The robber who is also a Ugandan was also handed over to the Ugandan authorities.

It’s on 7th December that this young man stole the motorcycle in Mutanda center, Gisoro district and came to Rwanda to sell it.

On 10th December he was arrested in Cyanika sector near the Rwanda and Uganda border while his colleague called Mugisha managed to escape.

Byiringiro Thomas confesed to have stolen the motorcycle adding that it was not the first time to steal as he was several times arrested for stealing money and other items in his area.
