Emmanuel Uwiragiye 63, from Kirehe District, was arrested at his home with 13Kgs of marijuana after residents tipped the Police.
Chrysostom Ndayishimiye 24, was caught with 40 pallets. He is being held at Kiramuruzi Police station in Gatsibo District. Leonard Ndayambaje, 22, was arrested with 102 pallets and 1Kgs.
Other two suspects were arrested within Kigali City including; Claude Nyandwi, 24, was arrested with 3Kgs. He is from Gasabo District.
He is being held at Rusoro Police station. Ramadhan Rudakemwa, 33, was arrested with 74 pallets. He is being held at Gikondo Police station.
Superintendent Emmanuel Karuranga, the Police Spokesperson for Eastern Region said all the arrests were possible because of tips from citizens.
These cases indicate an increase in drug abuse across the country, especially among the youths who are idle and disorderly.
Superintendent Karuranga said concerned partners should increase mechanisms of discouraging the youth from drug abuse such as the creation of employment opportunities.
