The Rwanda National Police (RNP), on December 6, inaugurated a facility dubbed “Training Centre of Excellence to further facilitate crime investigation through continuous training.
The facility situated at the forces General Headquarters in Kacyiru, is a donation from the Government of Belgium through Belgian Development Agency (BTC).
The building which has three conference halls has a capacity to accommodate over 120 people.
The facility is expected to facilitate the administration of refresher courses for police officers, mostly in crime investigation and intelligence.
The event coincided with the closing of the four-year BTC support worth €4 million, approximately to Rwanda National Police, most of which was channeled to supporting crime investigations.
Since 2009, 630 officers have benefited from the program through training in various disciplines including crime investigation, forensic and logistics.
The Belgian Ambassador to Rwanda, Marc Pecsteen lauded the good partnership between the Rwanda National Police and the Belgian government.
He noted that Police intelligence and investigating officers are “challenged to keep pace with social, economic, environmental and technological evolutions in order to protect citizens against illegal acts while upholding rights of individual.”
“I have no doubt that the Crime Investigation Department is now in a better position to play its role to support the judicial system to administer fair justice in compliance with law,” said Ambassador Pecsteen.
The Inspector General of Police, Emmanuel K. Gasana thanked BTC for its support which he said equipped the force with knowledge and skills in various areas including crime investigation and intelligence.
