Among the suspects are the 53-year old Augustin Utumabahutu and Diogene Nzabamwita, 39, who are said to be the distillers of the local illicit brew called Ibikwangari in Ruhango District.
The duo was arrested on February 28 in Byimana Sector, Ntenyo Cell in a targeted operation conducted by police and local leaders.
They were found distilling the illegal liquor and had over 180 litres of ibikwangari with them.

Also arrested is Vincent Nyamurangwa who was arrested on March 2 in Gasabo District with 933 rolls of cannabis.
Nyamurangwa’s arrest followed information provided by area residents who were versed with his criminal acts.
Supt. Hubert Gashagaza, the Southern Region police Spokesperson, said that despite the arrests, drug related crimes are on the decrease in the region.
“Fighting drugs is one of our priorities. More efforts were put in place and we mapped out transit routes and dealers. This has helped in tracking them down,” said Supt. Gashagaza.
“We raised this [drug abuse], especially locally brewed illicit liquor, in the security meeting.
We are devising other means to deal with it [illicit liquor] because compared to other drugs; it is consumed by many since its cheap.
But we are engaging the community, who are the people with the information on the dealers and where they operate from,” he added.
