Philip Amoateng appointed Tigo Rwanda General Manager

{Tigo Rwanda has today announced the appointment of Philip Amoateng as General Manager }

Philip Amoateng, most recently Tigo Ghana’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and a former CFO to Tigo Rwanda for four years, becomes the new General Manager for Tigo’s Rwandan operation, based in Kigali. He replaces Tongai Maramba.

Philip, aged 40, was born in Ghana and is one of Tigo’s longest serving colleagues, holding senior financial and operational roles across Millicom (Tigo’s parent company) for more than 14 years.

Tigo started its operations in Rwanda just seven years ago and during this time Tigo has been at the forefront of the industry and of innovation for customers in the country, and now has over three million users.

Tigo was the first to bring mobile-enabled 4G and 3G into the country, the first to offer customers WIFI on public transport, and a pioneer of Mobile Financial Services (MFS), helping to make it easier for Rwandans to transfer money, pay bills and access government services.

Tigo Cash Rwanda is now one of only 20 services globally with more than one million active users.

Philip Amoateng, commenting on his promotion to GM of Rwanda, said: “Rwanda is very familiar territory for me and I am excited to be taking up this next challenge in my career and coming back to Rwanda with my family in order take up this post.
