Over 600 Police officers complete VIP protection and counter terrorism course

{A group of 622 Police officers successfully graduated at Counter Terrorism Training Centre in Mayange, Bugesera District, as Rwanda National Police (RNP) endeavours to build capacity necessary to protect the country against any threats. }

The pass-out ceremony of the third intake held at the school on April 30 was officiated by the Inspector General of Police Emmanuel K. Gasana. Present was also DIGP in charge of Administration and Personnel, Juvenal Marizamunda and other commissioners and senior officers.

Graduating officers completed courses in VIP protection and counterterrorism began on January 19, 2015

In his remarks, IGP Gasana applauded the officers for having maintained a high level of discipline during the training and also for showing great determination and concentration to complete the practical tasks they were required to perform.

“We are endeavoring to build skills of police officers in every area required, so that we can protect the people and image of our country in this era where criminals use technology and sophisticated methods to carry out their destructive schemes,” he said.

“As you graduate today, you must maintain high level of discipline and professionalism that is required of you. Apply your skills with knowledge for their right cause and always understand that knowledge is the basis for better performance. You must always try to increase your knowledge and adapt modern techniques in combating crime.”

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) William Kayitare, the Commandant of Counter Terrorism Training Centre, said that the graduating officers had indicated a high level of patriotism, commitment and need to develop skills during the training, which will enable them perform their duties diligently.

RNP constantly trains its officers in order to increase their ability to overcome crime and protect residents.

The force currently owns three training schools which receive and training at varying levels; others are the National Police College (NPC) in Musanze District and Police Training School (PTS) in Gishari, Rwamagana District.
