Over 100 abandon school for tea plantations

{Primary school heads in Nyabihu district have revealed that 111 students, 3.6% of registered pupils to sit for Primary Six National Examinations did not attend, attributing the failure to child labour in tea plantations and brick-laying.}

This was revealed by Maniteze Médiatrice, the head teacher of Groupe Scolaire Jenda and Munyandinda Claver, the headmaster of Groupe Scolaire Cyamabuye.

Nyabihu district officer in charge of education, Nkera David, however lauds local administration for continued collaboration in reducing school drop outs compared to yester years.

As a step towards addressing the matter, Nyabihu district advising council decided to fine any parent depriving a child of her/his rights to education.
