‘One Dollar Campaign’ Project Contractor Grilled

{{Rwandans joined hands to secure money for construction of homes of orphans who do not have parents due to the killings that happened in 1994 Genocide against Tutsi.}}

In 2009, there was a launch of “One dollar Campaign” that was aimed at mobilizing members of the Rwandan Diaspora (women, men, children, young and old as well as their friends all over the world), to support vulnerable Genocide survivors especially the youth.

But the question remains; Did Rwandans who contributed to the initiative get what they expected?

Members of the one dollar campaign, on 29th January, 2013 took nearly 3-hours explaining to the Prime Minister, the reasons for delay in completion of construction of homes for vulnerable children.

Its was alleged that the delay of the construction was due to additional tasks that the construction companies said were not included during the signing of contract.

The Contractor says that those tasks have prevented him from meeting the deadline for completion of construction of orphans houses scheduled for in 2011.

However, Prime minister Dr. Pierre Damien Habumuremyi has directed the contractor to hasten construction activities so that within 3 months vulnerable children could get into their homes as was promised.
