A Park ranger has been killed and another one allegedly taken captive by the attackers in the early morning gun battle that occured in the Volcano zone of Rwanda.
Area residents say the gun fire started as early as 5am Sunday in Kinigi, Bisoki just close to the Bisoke volcano.
The cause of the one hour gun fire has not yet been established.
IGIHE rushed to the scene to establish the details of this incidence. It was noticeable that area residents in Bisoki were frightened and some had began fleeing the area.
Tuyisenge Speciose a resident of the area told IGIHE, “we wokeup to an early morning heavy gun fire which ended at 6AM. we are now holedup on the roadside, others residents have fled the area. We dont know the cause of this gunfire. we dont know whether anyone has been injured.”
Other residents told IGIHE that some of the explosives were falling near Bisate Health center.
Ruberwa Roger the local leader of Kinigi sector confirmed the gunfire incidence but said he hadn’t reached at the scene.
Another area resident who spoke to IGIHE on condition of annonymity said the attackers came from three areas including: Sussa, Kampinga and Gisasa.
The gun battle was concentrated at Gisasa where Park rangers are located.
By press time the killed park ranger was identified as Nsengiyumva Esdras .
