Nyarugenge woman held over drug trafficking

{Police in Nyarugenge District is holding a woman identified as Denise Nikuze after she was found in possession 40 kilograms of cannabis.}

The narcotics were found concealed in three bundle of clothes in her house in Kimisagara sector, disguising as a second-hand clothes seller.

She is currently detained at Nyamirambo Police Station.

Police is also looking an accomplice said to have been working with the suspect in this illegal business.

Superintendent Modeste Mbabazi, Police spokesperson for the Central Region said with the current good relations with the public, even those still involved in this illegal business will be apprehended.

“Fighting drug abuse remains one of the Police priorities and this is a joint campaign with the general public through community policing, which actually has played a vital role in fighting crimes,” Supt. Mbabazi said.

Article 594 of the Rwandan penal code stipulates that, any person who, unlawfully, makes, transforms, imports, or sells narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances within the country, shall be liable to a term of imprisonment of three to five years and a fine of Rwf500, 000 to Rwf5, 000,000 million.
