Grouped in over 60 cooperatives, the Muslims embarked on the project last week and have so far collected about Rwf1.6 million and still counting.
Speaking to IGIHE, the Representative of the Female Muslim Community in Nyarugenge District, Uwimbabazi Rehema said that they are committed to supporting the vulnerable, enabling them access health services.
“Before, we used to collect funds for patients undergoing treatment at University Central Hospital of Kigali (CHUCK) or at Muhima hospital, but in most cases we found ourselves not having sufficient funds for everyone.” She said
Uwimbabazi said that the community thought it’d be better to pay ‘Mutuelle de Santé’ as it would be more efficient and that it would help a great number of vulnerable people.
The Mayor of Nyarugenge District, Kayisime Nzaramba lauded the support.
