Nyanza: Rwandan US ambassador initiated gender promotion program through games

{United States ambassador operating in Rwanda, Erica J. Barks-Ruggles started officially on Thursday 28th October 2015 activities that promote gender equality and complementarily through the game named ‘Kids Play International’ ( KPI) in Gatagara, Nyanza District.}

Talking to the youth, Ambassador Erica encouraged them to participate in launched program as it will enable them to grow being aware of gender equality and complementarily. He also encouraged them to do sports to improve their wellbeing.

“It is a good activity since it will equip children with gender equality awareness. Indeed they will stay in better conditions of life as result of doing sports and take part in their class success.” Said Ambassador Erica.

He unveiled that there is plan to guarantee the support to promote the program and expand it to other parts of the country.

Eric Uwimana Bassargha expressed his gratitude to Ambassador Erica and explained other extra sports activities included in their program like teaching children to keep harmony and gender equality.

“We started talks in 2013 when we informed parents and children on the structure of the program. We requested parents to motivate children to join the program. They did so and we started educating them gender equality .We encourage them to widen education like their brothers.”

KPI program is one of US strategies helping children to immerse their knowledge in various programs through games.

It operates in rural areas in different countries under development specifically Rwanda and Malawi.

It was introduced in Rwanda in 2010 and currently works with 130 children ranging between 7 and 18 years old.

The program has also eighty girls participating in various games of volley ball, handball as well as other physical exercises.
