Also at the memorial site, prayers were held involving various religious denominations. Several people gave their Testimonies recounting the events during the genocide.
Kaniziyusi, the representative of genocide survivors in Nyanza district reminded area residents to support the survivors during the commemoration period.
“During commemoration of the genocide against the Tutsi, we are also paying attention to remembering the survivors, that’s why we have to be close and give them any kind of support they need during this period.”
Residents were encouraged to participate on the ongoing sessions during the commemoration week.
Over a million ethnic tutsi’s were killed in the genocide that occurred in 1994.
