Nyamasheke: New health center inaugurated

Gisakura Health Center of which construction activities were completed two years ago has been handed over to Nyamasheke district officials to start operating, two years after completion.

The delays in officially launching the health center resulted from lack of electricity in the area where the health center is built.

The former health center had got dilapidated and too remote from the village settlements.

The new health center which was built near the residents has induced joy among Bushekeri sector dwellers who attest that the new facility will save their time since they because of the short distances involved.

“I would pay Rwf 2000 for motorbike to transport me to the center. This new center is in a short distance,” said Mujawamariya Vestine one of the residents.

Residents say that they would be served poorly at the former health center as they hadn’t enough room to admit many patients. Uwamurengeye Agnes said that a patient would likely be sent back home before getting healed in case another more seriously ill person got at the health center.

The acting mayor of Nyamasheke district, Pierre Célestin Habiyaremye said that electricity has been availed at the new health center adding that they are soon rehabilitating a road to the center.

“We have made electricity available and we have offered a tender of constructing the road,” he said.

The health center with 20 rooms has cost Rwf 535 million built over a period of two years. It be open to patients on 15th February,2016.
