Nyabihu launches anti-gender based violence center

Nyabihu parents have been urged to avoid domestic conflicts leading to gender based violence, which affects the family.

The message was conveyed yesterday during the official inauguration of the anti-gender based violence center called ‘Tuganire’ in Murambi cell, Rurembo sector of Nyabihu district.

The center comprises of 22 women trained to assist fellow women seeking advice and other support related to gender based violence, at the launched center.

Mukeshimana Marie Claire, one of the women trained to help others at the center shared that acquired knowledge will help explain better issues regarding violence.

“We will advise women having cases of violence and seeking assistance at this anti-gender based violence center. This will reduce the matter of polygamy from lingering in this region which is the root of most conflicts and violence,” she said.

The employee of Rwanda Women’s Network (RWN), Abatoni Penina requested residents of Rurembo sector in which the gender based violence center is built, to maximize its benefits by seeking assistance since its good utilization will help combat violence.

RWN was launched in 1995 and operates in Rwanda on activities of advocacies, education, providing health care, protecting women’ rights and providing school fees for poor students in seven districts of the country.
