Nyabarongo flood, road temporarily closed

Heavy rains in Northern Province have prompted temporary closure of some roads connecting different provinces over floods, roadside mass-wasting and erosion along the roads.

“Because of the heavy rain experienced in Northern Province resulting in disasters, Nyabarongo marshland has been flooded. Kigali-Muhanga road is closed,” twitted the Ministry of Local Government.

“Because of the erosion at the place known as ‘Ku Cyome’, the Muhanga-Ngororero road is closed. The government is going to try by all means to reopen the road,” reads another part of the tweet.

The heavy rains of last Saturday night left 49 people dead and 472 families left homeless.
