Norwegian Diplomats Discuss DRC Crisis

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mary Baine, received Thorbjørnis Gaustadsæther, Norwegian Ambassador to Rwanda, and Frank De Coninck, Belgium envoy for the Great Lakes region.

Their discussions focused on regional security, including the current crisis in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Mary Baine stressed the need for the international community to consider the complexity of the conflict by addressing the root causes and find a lasting political solution as recommended by the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR).

“Our preference is that the problem is resolved politically and Rwanda is ready to cooperate with the ICGLR to solve the problem.” Said Mary Baine.

For Mary Baine, this is the option that would ensure peace and security not only in the DRC but also for the entire region.
