Northern Ireland delegation commends Isange One Stop Centre

A delegation from Northern Ireland has described Isange One Stop Centre as an exemplary model that police institutions should aspire to emulate in order to tackle gender-based-violence (GBV) and child abuse effectively.

On May 27, the five member delegation toured the anti-GBV and Child Abuse Directorate centre at Rwanda National Police (RNP) and the Isange One Stop Centre at the Kacyiru Police Hospital in a bid to collect experiences on how RNP promotes gender equality by offering quality services to victims of GBV.

During the tour, the delegation was received by Superintendent Beline Mukamana, the Director for Anti-Gender-Based Violence and Child Abuse Directorate, who introduced them to the methods that RNP uses to response to incidences of GBV, services offered to survivors of the vice and procedures for apprehending suspects.

The head of delegation, Inspector Richard Brown, from Police Service of Northern Ireland, said that for the one week that the delegation has been around, they have been impressed at how Rwanda has promoted gender equality.

“Rwanda has become a model in the fight against GBV despite having a traumatic experience of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. Many countries should emulate the practical solutions that Rwanda implemented in order to avoid conflict and champion equal rights,” he said.
