{Rwanda says, no country has so far demonstrated any willingness to receive Burundi refugees hosted in Rwanda and sending back Burundi refugees with no identification from Rwanda should not be understood as a wild act since every country has its own laws to respect.}
At the beginning of March, 2016 Rwanda deported 1500 Burundian that were living inside the country for lack of identities and requested them to come back when they get identification documents.
Responding to the deportation of Burundian during a press conference held last Friday, the Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Louise Mushikiwabo said; “No country receives people without regulations. If you are a refugee you are a refugee, if you are a neighbor having come to run business inside the country, there are procedures to follow,” she said.
“In East African Community, we don’t have any problem if citizens come to operate in our country, we accept it, there are processes to follow. ,” she added.
Mushikiwabo said that no country has demonstrated willingness to accommodate Burundi refugees expected to be relocated.
“Rwanda wished to relocate Burundi refugees to other countries to reduce political disarray; it was discussed, but no country has shown readiness to accommodate them. It requires countries to be involved in relocating Burundi refugees away from neighboring countries which creates political conflicts,” she said.
“Burundi cases involve a mixed chain of people and countries having other targets. They are refugees who fled to us and we don’t want them to fall in such political stir,” noted Mushikiwabo.
One of problems is that many countries have the problem of refugees, we are continuing to engage in talks but no decision has been taken,” she said.
