The youth in Ngororero District have been hailed for their relentless efforts in maintaining peace and security in their neighbourhoods.
They were also urged to be watchful and fight against human trafficking.
In his address to over 200 youths during a recent meeting held in Nyange sector, the District Police Commander (DPC) Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Marc Gasangwa said; “Rwanda National Police acknowledges your contribution in sustaining the existing security, keep up the spirit.”
Most of the youth that attended the anti-crime campaign meeting are students who are on holidays.
“No one can work or think creatively towards their individual development in an insecure environment. You are the hope for the future of our country that’s why you need to keep uplifting Rwanda’s economic situation,” he said.
He reminded the holiday-makers to beware of human traffickers who may target them.
“Human trafficking is a hidden crime that is usually conducted by people who pretend to be well-wishers; they try to manipulate unsuspecting people, especially girls not to reveal their plan to anyone.”
“It is therefore important to fight it and ensure that our communities remain safe and ensure that our youth are not exploited by such people,” he added.
He said that young people are mainly lured into believing they are going to be given either employment or education in places far away from their homes. In the end, they are flipped into prostitution or forced labour.
He asked them not to look for a quick fix of their lives but rather focus and work hard for a better future.
He urged them to continue playing the crucial role in the identification of suspected human traffickers or any victim in order to contribute to police investigation and operations that help to overcome the crime.
He told the youth to utilize the available communication platforms set up by RNP in ease the communication and information sharing.
