Ngororero organise community policing match

As part of the community policing activities, the District Police Unit of Ngororero and the business community in the district organized a football match as a move to further raise awareness against crimes.

The football match played on March 19 ended 2-0 in favour of Ngororero DPU.

One of the traders, Epimaque Maniragaba said that such sports activities builds strong partnership between the people and police and binds them as a team that strives for the same goal of ensuring safer communities.

“It’s practically impossible to have a police officer deployed on every shop, so as the business group who want to run our businesses in a secure environment, we must make community policing an effective tool by collectively working with security institutions and local leaders in crime prevention,” Maniragaba said.

The District Police Commander, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Marc Gasangwa reminded the traders not to expose their businesses to risks like theft and be active members in the anti-crime drive.

“Business people are usually targeted by conmen; you should be on alert against such people. Sometimes they could be selling you contraband or even trying to buy goods with counterfeit currencies; be vigilant and report such people,” he said.

He went on to enlighten them about firefighting techniques and encouraged them to install firefighting gadgets such as fire extinguisher in their shops and even in their residential houses.

Sports is one of the Rwanda National Police tools through which the force interacts with people in strengthening the ideal of community policing.
