{Girl Hub Rwanda has launched a Girl Impact Map (GIM) to help in identifying key areas related to girls that require specific support and ensure the creation of policies that positively impact them}
The Girl Impact Map is an innovative mapping tool that allows users (NGOs, Policy Makers, Government) to plot key behavioral and attitudinal data for girls (e.g. school attendance, access to health services, exposure to violence etc.) throughout the country, as well as girl-focused programs and resources in Rwanda.
The Girl Impact Map platform will allow Government of Rwanda, Development Partners, and key stakeholders interested in girls’ issues to identify the situation and needs of girls in a more strategic and informed manner, focusing specifically on where those girls are. This will enable track activity, program planning, and distribution of resources in the most effective and efficient manner.
“As the government of Rwanda, the Girl Impact Map platform will help in identifying key areas related to girls that require specific support and ensure the creation of policies that positively impact our girls” Rose Rwabuhihi, Gender Monitoring Office Chief
GIM allows users to plot key behavioral and attitudinal data for girls throughout Rwanda, as well as girl-focused programs and resources. Features of the platform allow the data to be overlaid and visualizations have been developed so different metrics can be compared at a glance. In addition, the software has been designed to alert users to particularly interesting areas within the plotted data.
“Such platforms are seen as opportunities for collaboration with existing organizations working in the same area, which will allow us to join efforts and as a result deliver for girls in a more strategic and sustainable way. It is also a means to avoid the problem of projects duplication.” said Josiane Umutoniwase, National Coordinator at The Rwanda Girl Guides Association.
