National youth administrative council pledges to combat drug abuse

{Newly elected representatives of the National Youth Council (NYC) have committed to join efforts in fighting against drug abuse among youth.}

The representatives were revealed on Friday after the elections of administrative board of NYC held in Kigali.

The coordinator and president of NYC Uwanyirigira Clarisse, from Musanze district, pledged to collaborate with the youth to advocate for their capacity to rebuild their lives and have a regional youthinstitution that will train them on various crafts.

She revealed a plan to increase mobilization aimed at enabling youth to earn money.
“We will help the youth by showing them existing opportunities while advocating for the youth to get investments fund to launch their businesses,” she said.

“This committee has also promised to be active in the fight against drugs among youth as well as bad habits that could harm their future.”she added.

The elected committee is comprised of 6 girls among 9 representatives which means girls occupied 66,7% while boys are 33,3%.

The National Electoral Commission requested voted representatives to effectively conduct their duties to positively transform the youth’s livelihoods.

Elections of the national youth administrative Council is promulgated by the article 14 of the law No 001/2016 of February 5, 2016 stating circumstances in which NYC has to operate
