Honourable Minister of Defence, Gen James Kabarebe closed on 18 May 2016 the three day National Security Symposium that had been going at Rwanda Defence Force Command and Staff College, in Musanze District. The annual event this year was conducted under the theme: “Contemporary Security Challenges: The African Perspective”.
On Day Three of the Symposium, the last but not least topic to be discussed was on external interference in African Affairs. Panelists included Honorable Minister of Defence, Gen James Kabarebe who stressed that Africans should be the first to blame for their failure, as we have all needed to engage wisely the rest of the world. The other panelists were the Minister of Justice, Hon Johnston Busingye as well as the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, RWAMUGANZA Caleb.
In his closing remarks, the Minister of Defence, Gen Kabarebe, thanked all participants to the Symposium for giving their best during a three day of intense discussion. “The discussions were vibrant and excellent, the organization was so good and enriching, participants have learnt a lot”, he said.
This was also echoed by the RDF CSC Commandant, Maj Gen John Bosco Kazura who reaffirmed that the objectives of the symposium were achieved beyond expectations. “We have achieved our objectives more than we expected. The discussions were very educative, and this will help the students officers at RDF Command and Staff College to perform future duties both at home and beyond”, Gen Kazura said.
The fourth National Security Symposium participants discussed a number of cross-cutting and complementary topics, all related to Contemporary Security Challenges, the theme of the year.
