{After a failed return to Rwanda in November 2016, priest Nahimana Thomas the founder of ‘Ishema’ political party has announced that he will arrive in Kigali at the beginning of next year to start campaigns ahead of presidential elections scheduled for 4th August 2017.
}
Nahimana first announced he would return to Kigali on 23rd November 2016 but, it was later reported, that he was barred from entering Rwanda over incomplete travel documents which Nahimana claimed to be false.
President Paul Kagame, during the RPF Inkotanyi Political Bureau meeting held on 11th December 2016, said there was no reason for barring Nahimana from entering Rwanda.
The president was surprised by how a fugitive like priest Nahimana could be barred from entering Rwanda saying he should not be barred from entering the country even when he has foreign passport.
President Kagame said that he doesn’t understand why Nahimana was barred from entering Rwanda noting that if he was being sought to face justice, then he would be let in the country and face justice. A person like Nahimana, Kagame said, cannot destabilize Rwanda.
Five days after the president made the comments, Nahimana announced that he will arrive in Kigali on 23rd January 2017.
In a press conference at the closure of the 14th National Dialogue ‘Umushyikirano’ meeting, said that whoever qualifies under the law can stand in presidential elections.
