{Poultry and piggery farmers in Musanze district have called for support to migrate away from traditional livestock breeding methods into modern ones so as to boost productivity.}
They made the call yesterday as they completed a one day training, attended by organized by Gorilla Feeds that produces animal feeds as a way of increasing livestock production.
“I am a breeder of pigs. I have been astonished with good harvests of people with similar breeding who embraced modern way of piggery practices. Theirs can weigh 300 kg while the heaviest pig of mine can’t weigh beyond 180 kgs. I have realized that the good productivity is a result of proper breeding of their livestock,” said Nyirandabimana Beatrice.
Another poultry and piggery practitioner Shirimpumu Jean Claude said that proper breeding has t has greatly contributed a lot to increased productivity.
Habimana Ernest, an official from Gorilla Feed said that they have organized such trainings for piggery and poultry farmers as a way of capacitating them with knowledge on proper breeding and increased returns per unit investment. “We teach them to invest little and earn much income since Rwanda is marching towards a knowledge-based economy.
