Musanze FC and Abarashi Gatsibo win this year’s Airtel Rising Stars National Championships

{{Kigali, Rwanda, 19th July 2015}}- {Season three of Airtel Rising Stars (ARS) national U-17 football tournament for boys and girls organized annually by leading telecommunications operator, Airtel Rwanda, officially came to a close today, with eight teams from four regions around the country competing to take the prestigious national championships trophy back home. This year’s winners are Musanze FC for the boys and Abarashi Gatsibo for the girls.}

The tournament saw Musanze FC and Abarashi Gatsibo walk away with Rwfs 200,000 and the 1st runners up, Gatsibo FC boys’ team and Gatagara FC girls’ team walked away with Rwfs 150,000. The3rd and 4th teams got Rwfs 100,000 and Rwfs 50,000 respectively.

Airtel Rising Stars is an Airtel initiative which aims to develop grassroots football by discovering talented youngsters across Africa and providing them the opportunity to evolve and acquire new football skills and develop into notable soccer talents.

This year’s ARS regionals were officially launched at a very colorful function held in Eastern province, Gatsibo district attended by community leaders, Airtel staff and community members. The games have been played in Eastern province (Gatsibo), Southern province (Nyamagabe), Western province (Rubavu) and Kigali province (Gasabo).

“As you all know, Airtel is the largest supporter of youth soccer on the continent. Each year we become more dedicated to this cause both in Rwanda and around the world and I would like to assure you that we remain committed to nurturing and harnessing our local talent on an annual basis through our tournaments,” said Mr. Teddy Bhular, Airtel Rwanda Managing Director.

“Special congratulations go to the selected players. You are the future of Rwanda’s football. I encourage you to use this opportunity wisely for the betterment of your lives, communities and your country.” He added.
