{The Prime Minister, Anastase Murekezi has said that the government is doing all that is possible to address famine that has hit some parts of Eastern Province. }
Premier Murekezi noted this on Tuesday as he closed the National Itorero dubbed ‘Ingamburuzabukene’ held for one week in Huye district of Southern Province.
The National Itorero ‘Ingamburuzabukene’ was attended by 1001 participants including agronomists ,veterinaries and representatives of agriculture and animal husbandry cooperatives from across the country with the major theme of increasing production.
Premier Murekezi said that crop and animal husbandry in Rwanda are faced with drought exacerbated by climate change. Drought in Eastern Province has negatively impacted crops and livestock.

The MINAGRI state minister, Tony Nsanganira recently said that adopting irrigation can be a better way of becoming drought resilient.
He noted this last week as he visited the IPRC south where he revealed that MINAGRI is mobilizing people to embrace irrigation as a way of coping with the drought effects.
He explained that the government will offer 50% tax discount to farmers buying irrigation equipment.
